Broncos' Bouye handed 6-game ban for PEDs
Denver Broncos cornerback A.J. Bouye received a six-game suspension Wednesday for performance-enhancing drugs, the team confirmed.
Bouye was reportedly awaiting punishment Tuesday after being found to have used the same supplement that led to six-game suspensions for Houston Texans wide receiver Will Fuller and cornerback Bradley Roby.
The ban will keep Bouye out of action for the remainder of the season as well as the first two games of 2021. Bouye notched 23 tackles and six pass breakups this year, his first in Denver following an offseason trade from the Jacksonville Jaguars.
The Broncos will enter the final quarter of the campaign without their top three cornerbacks, as Bryce Callahan and Essang Bassey are sidelined with injuries. Callahan will be eligible to return from injured reserve in Week 16, but Bassey won't play again this year due to a torn ACL.
Bouye made the Pro Bowl in 2017 as a member of the Jaguars. He spent the first four seasons of his career with the Texans before signing a five-year, $67.5-million contract with the Jaguars in free agency, a deal that still has one year remaining. Denver could save nearly $13.4 million by releasing him this offseason.
