Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes already owns one NFL MVP award and is making a strong case to win the honor again in his third season as a starter.

Teammate Mecole Hardman thinks it may be time to rename the award after Mahomes.

"I think it gets to the point where ... I think I heard somebody say they should just name the award after him," the Chiefs wide receiver told NFL Media. "Name the MVP award the 'Mahomes Award.' Because I feel like, I'm a big LeBron fan, and every year I'm like, this man is averaging 27, eight, and eight, and taking his team to the Finals - you know what I'm saying? Nobody is doing that. He's in year 17 or 18, what's the discussion?

"The year James Harden won it; LeBron definitely should have won it that year. He had more points than him that year, more assists, more rebounds. I think they do it to the point where they don't want to just have Pat win it every year or LeBron win it every year. ... Just name the award after him."

Mahomes, who also won Super Bowl LIV MVP, has a league-leading 3,815 passing yards and ranks third in passing touchdowns with 31 entering Sunday's game against the Miami Dolphins.
