The Las Vegas Raiders fired defensive coordinator Paul Guenther on Sunday, the team announced.

Guenther's defense gave up 44 points in a blowout loss to the Indianapolis Colts in Week 14 to drop Las Vegas to 7-6.

Defensive line coach Rod Marinelli will serve as interim DC for the remainder of the season.

The Raiders' defense has struggled with consistency in 2020. Over the last four games, it's allowed an average of 37.5 points, with the team going 1-3 in those contests.

Entering Sunday's slate, Guenther's unit ranked 23rd in yards allowed and 28th in points surrendered. Only the Tennessee Titans and Cincinnati Bengals have accumulated fewer sacks than the Raiders have.

Guenther joined Jon Gruden when the head coach was hired in 2018. He was previously the defensive coordinator for the Bengals.

Marinelli has plenty of experience on the sideline. The 71-year-old spent six seasons as the defensive coordinator and defensive line coach for the Dallas Cowboys before joining the Raiders this offseason. He also spent three years as the Detroit Lions' head coach from 2006 to 2008 and the Chicago Bears' DC from 2010 to 2012.
