Mayfield: Lamar's dramatic late return was 'like a scene from a movie'
Lamar Jackson's dramatic late-game heroics during the Baltimore Ravens' 47-42 win on Monday night stunned Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield as much as the rest of the football world.
Jackson left in the third quarter with cramps, only to return for a fourth-down play after backup Trace McSorley suffered an injury. The reigning MVP then threw a go-ahead 44-yard touchdown pass on his first play back in the game.
Mayfield responded to Jackson with a score 47 seconds later, but then Ravens kicker Justin Tucker hit a game-sealing field goal.
"It was like a scene from a movie," said Mayfield, according to Jake Trotter of ESPN. "I hate that for Trace McSorley, praying that he's OK. But as soon as he went down, you could see Lamar trotting back onto the field, it was like, 'Geez.'"
"He's a great player, you're gonna have to just try and contain him, you're never going to be able to stop guys like that," he added.
Baltimore and Cleveland combined for 35 fourth-quarter points to make the hyped AFC North showdown one of the season's best games.
Mayfield threw a costly interception toward the end of the third quarter, giving the Ravens the ball at the 1-yard line and allowing them to take a 34-20 lead.
Cleveland's signal-caller redeemed himself in the fourth quarter, throwing two touchdown passes and running in a third to keep pace with Baltimore. He finished with 343 yards through the air.
But ultimately, it was Jackson's night to shine. The Ravens star finished with 124 rushing yards, 163 passing yards, and three total touchdowns.
The Browns fell to 9-4 with the prime-time loss, while the Ravens are back in the thick of the AFC wild-card race at 8-5.
