Alex Smith increased his practice workload Friday to full participation, but he's unlikely to have top receiver Terry McLaurin versus the Carolina Panthers if he returns for Week 16.

The Washington Football Team quarterback was listed as questionable on the final injury report after completing his first full practice of the week. Smith is nursing a calf injury that forced him to miss a Week 15 loss to the Seattle Seahawks.

McLaurin was labeled doubtful after missing three practices with an ankle injury. The NFL's 10th-leading receiver has 1,078 yards and three touchdowns through the air over 14 contests in 2020.

Smith was reportedly facing an uphill battle to get back into the lineup by Sunday. Washington gave first-team reps Wednesday and Thursday to Dwayne Haskins and installed a game plan tailored to the sophomore's strengths.

Washington is 4-1 in games started by Smith, and 2-7 in games started by Haskins or Kyle Allen. The club sits one game ahead of the New York Giants and Dallas Cowboys for first place in the NFC East.

Elsewhere on offense, Washington called running back Antonio Gibson questionable. The standout rookie logged three limited practices after missing the last two games with a toe injury.
