Report: Panthers among teams eyeing Haskins
The Carolina Panthers are one of several teams showing interest in free-agent quarterback Dwayne Haskins, reports Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
Haskins passed through waivers unclaimed after the Washington Football Team cut him two seasons into his pro career. The 23-year-old is reportedly unlikely to sign elsewhere before the end of the regular season.
Haskins was Washington's No. 15 pick in 2019, but poor play and immaturity issues led to his release. He was a Heisman Trophy finalist in his final season at Ohio State.
Carolina revamped its quarterback room last offseason, shedding Cam Newton and Kyle Allen while bringing in Teddy Bridgewater and former XFL standout P.J. Walker. The Panthers also retained Will Grier, a third-round pick in 2019.
In 16 career appearances, Haskins has thrown 12 touchdowns against 14 interceptions and owns a 74.4 passer rating.
Haskins and agent David Mulugheta mutually agreed to part ways following his departure from Washington, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
