Brandin Cooks: 'I'm not going to accept any more trades'
Brandin Cooks hopes he's been traded for the last time.
The speedy receiver has been dealt three times in the last four years, and he'd like to put a halt to any further moves.
"As far as a team thinking they could trade me for draft capital, I would caution them to think twice, because quite frankly, I'm not going to accept any more trades," the Houston Texans wideout said Friday, according to ESPN's Sarah Barshop. "And so, for me, if you want me off your team, you've just got to let me walk and choose my destination."
Cooks was traded by the New Orleans Saints to the New England Patriots in 2017 for a package that included a first-round pick. After one season, the Pats flipped him to the Los Angeles Rams in another deal involving a first-round draft choice.
After signing a five-year extension with the Rams in 2018, he was shipped to the Texans this past April for a second-round pick.
Houston is 4-11 with one regular-season game left. The Texans also don't own a first-round pick in the next draft. They would have to ship out talent, such as Cooks, to acquire an opening-round selection, but the 27-year-old is trying to get ahead of such talk.
"For me, (Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson) is a special player, and I would love to continue to grow with him," Cooks said.
"When it comes to playing here and playing with Deshaun, I would love to continue that growth. But that's out of my hands."
Cooks' contract doesn't have a no-trade clause in it, so he wouldn't be able to nix a deal. He's making it clear, though, he's not a fan of the tag that has followed him in his seven-year career.
