Jim Schwartz leaves Eagles after 5 seasons
Jim Schwartz has parted ways with the Philadelphia Eagles after five seasons as defensive coordinator.
"This has been an incredible five-year run and I relished every moment of it," Schwartz said in a statement.
Schwartz joined the team following head coach Doug Pederson's hiring in 2016 and helped the Eagles win the Super Bowl in 2017.
After a tumultuous 4-11-1 season in Philadelphia, reports emerged that Schwartz wouldn't return to the Eagles and would consider retirement. He didn't make a determination one way or the other about his future.
"I have given my heart and soul to the game of football, not just over the last five years here, but throughout my 32 years as a coach. Although my passion for the game remains strong, it is best for me to step back from the day-to-day of coaching for the time being," he said.
The Eagles' defense, which ranked fourth overall and in points against during the team's championship season, dropped to 19th and 20th, respectively, this campaign.
