Report: Teammates, coaches believe Watt has played last game with Texans
J.J. Watt might be on his way out of Houston.
Some Texans players and coaches believe the star pass-rusher has played his last game for the AFC South club, according to James Palmer of NFL Network.
Houston knows Watt deserves clarity on his future with the team, sources told Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo of NFL Network.
The Texans have insisted both Watt and quarterback Deshaun Watson - who has reportedly requested a trade amid issues with ownership - remain in the team's plans.
"In regards to 4 and 99, they're valued members on our team," owner Cal McNair said on Jan. 8. "They're important to the team and the city, they're passionate, and they want to win. And those are all totally in alignment with where we're going and what we've done here in bringing Nick aboard, so it's perfect, we're totally aligned."
The three-time Defensive Player of the Year reportedly confronted former head coach and general manager Bill O'Brien early in the campaign before the Texans fired O'Brien.
Watt also apologized to Watson for wasting one of the quarterback's prime seasons while walking off the field after Week 17, and questioned some of his teammates' work ethic earlier in the year.
The 31-year-old has one year left on his contract. Trading or cutting Watt would save the Texans the entirety of his $17.5-million cap hit.
