Super Bowl Gatorade color prop: The case for each, plus our best bet

The best part about the Super Bowl is the wide array of things you can bet, whether it's for before, during, or after the actual game. One of the most popular over the years is the color of the Gatorade dumped on the winning head coach.

Is there an exact science to finding an edge in this market on an annual basis? Maybe. Or, you could try to hold off until a player blatantly reveals the team's color of choice.

While we wait for that to happen, let's dive into the odds, notes, and best bet.

Gatorade color odds

Color Odds
Orange +140
Red/Pink +300
Yellow/Green +500
Clear/Gray/White +650
Blue +800
Purple +800

Trends

  • Orange has dominated. It's been the most common preference since 2006, with five teams choosing it.
  • Red has never been used, which is crazy considering 10 teams feature the color on their uniforms

The case for each (no pun intended)

Blue: Cool Blue is the most popular Gatorade in the United States, according to The Takeout. Getting 8-1 odds might be the steal of the millennium.

Orange: Find me a hotter color; you can't. Orange has won one-third of the time since Super Bowl XL and was Kansas City's choice last year.

Red: There isn't a color more due than red. If there was any year for the drought to break, it's one in which both teams sport red as their main color.

Yellow: It might be the most obscure color, but don't sleep on yellow - it won three years ago and has been featured just as often as blue.

Clear: Oh, the versatility. Ice Punch? Glacier Cherry? Water? All clear. You can cast a wide net with this choice.

Purple: Riptide Rush is the best Gatorade on the planet.

Best bet - Clear (+650)

Orange doesn't provide enough value, red has been a sucker bet, and yellow doesn't stand out in this field to warrant a wager. Betting clear is like betting an under - who wants to root for a non-color to come spewing out? - but it's also the most flexible: Who's to say the chosen Gatorade cooler wasn't filled up out of the faucet by the training team?

At +650, I can sleep happy. Cover all your bases with clear, and go cash your winning ticket immediately after Andy Reid or Bruce Arians celebrates under a boring bath of water and ice pellets.
