Patrick Mahomes will play through a toe injury in Sunday's Super Bowl, but the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback is expected to undergo surgery following the season, reports NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Mahomes suffered turf toe in the Chiefs' divisional playoff victory over the Cleveland Browns. He's had to manage the injury since.

The star quarterback is expected to see a foot specialist sometime after Super Bowl LV, and surgery will likely be determined as the best course of action.

Mahomes has appeared on the injury report every day due to the ailment. However, the Chiefs passer said he's been helped by the two weeks of rest since the AFC Championship Game.

"Having these two weeks to let it rest and heal up, especially being almost three weeks, over three weeks away from the injury itself. If you look at those type of injuries, that kind of gives you the normal timeline," Mahomes said this week. "Definitely every single day that I get to rest it, makes it better."
