Rodgers named NFL MVP for 3rd time
Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers was named the 2020 NFL MVP on Saturday.
It's the third MVP award of Rodgers' likely Hall of Fame career after earning the honor in 2011 and 2014.
The Packers star beat out strong competition from Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen.
Rodgers, who was also named a first-team All-Pro, put together one of his most productive seasons to date. The veteran set career highs and led the NFL with 48 touchdowns passes and a 70.7 completion percentage. His 121.5 passer rating also topped the league and trailed only his 2011 MVP campaign (122.5).
Rodgers also racked up 4,299 passing yards (seventh in the NFL), averaged 8.2 yards per attempt (third), and threw just five interceptions.
The one-time Super Bowl champion led the Packers to their second straight 13-win season and appearance in the NFC Championship Game, where they lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Rodgers raised doubts about his future in Green Bay immediately following the loss to the Bucs, but walked back those comments shortly after, saying he has no reason to believe he won't return to the NFC North team in 2021.
Packers head coach Matt LaFleur said Monday the star signal-caller will "absolutely be here for a long time."
