Gore: 'I'd love to wear that No. 21 jersey one more time' for 49ers
At 37 years old, free-agent running back Frank Gore remains eager to play another season.
Gore recently completed his 16th NFL campaign with the New York Jets, but the former All-Pro would like to reunite with the San Francisco 49ers before he hangs up his cleats.
"Man, I'd love to wear that No. 21 jersey one more time," Gore told 95.7 The Game, according to ESPN's Field Yates. "If that was to happen, that would definitely be my last year, if I could come back and sign with the 49ers."
San Francisco selected the tailback from Miami 65th overall in the 2005 NFL Draft. Gore quickly became beloved in the Bay Area, stacking consecutive 1,000-yard campaigns from 2006-09 and 2011-14. He remains the franchise’s all-time leading rusher with 11,073 yards and trails only Joe Perry for the most rushing touchdowns by a Niner.
Gore signed with the Indianapolis Colts as a free agent ahead of the 2015 season. After three years with the Colts, he toured the AFC East, spending a season each with the Miami Dolphins, Buffalo Bills, and Jets.
The Florida native rushed for 653 yards and two touchdowns with the Jets.
Gore currently sits third with 16,000 yards on the NFL's all-time rushing list. He's 726 yards behind Walter Payton.
