The Kansas City Chiefs released running back Damien Williams, the club announced Tuesday.
Williams emerged as a playoff hero for the Chiefs during their run to a Super Bowl title in 2019. Used primarily as a backup during much of the campaign, he scored six touchdowns during the postseason, including 133 total yards and two touchdowns in the Super Bowl LIV victory over the San Francisco 49ers.
Williams opted out of the 2020 season due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The Chiefs selected rusher Clyde Edwards-Helaire with their first-round pick in the 2020 draft.
