The Seahawks had hoped to rework Reed's deal to free up salary cap space, but the five-year pro sought a long-term commitment, according to Rapoport.
Reed played in all 16 games last season, ranking second on the team in sacks with 6.5. He's notched 22 career sacks.
Seattle has been busy making defensive line transactions. The Hawks have re-signed Poona Ford and Benson Mayowa while also adding Kerry Hyder, who led the San Francisco 49ers in sacks last season.
