Broncos' Miller aiming to play 'another 5-7 years'

Denver Broncos star Von Miller is nowhere near ready to retire despite creeping up in age.

"I've got a son," the sack artist told Mike Klis of 9News. "He'll be here in about three or four weeks. I definitely want him to be able to see me play. That's going to take about five-to-seven years.

"That's what I have on my heart, that's what I have on my mind, another five-to-seven years. Whatever God will give me, I'm going to take it."

The 32-year-old missed the 2020 season after dislocating an ankle tendon during training camp. He notched eight sacks in 2019, his lowest output in a full season (Miller registered five sacks over nine outings in 2013).

The Broncos could have released Miller before the new league year in March, but they picked up his $17.5-million tab for the 2021 campaign. He could now become a free agent in 2022 after spending his entire career in Denver.

"Last year I got caught up in, not stressed out, but I felt the tension of being 31 and I wanted to prove to you guys I'm this, I'm that," Miller said. "I know I have a lot of good football left.

"My emphasis this year is just to be with the guys. If you remember last year, I was tense - I've got to go out there and show these guys. Now, I feel like I don't have to play that type of game, especially for myself mentally. I just want to go out here and be the best Von that I can possibly be on and off the ball field."

Miller sits atop the Broncos' all-time leaderboard with 106 career sacks. The eight-time Pro Bowl edge rusher won Super Bowl 50 with Denver, taking home game MVP honors after a 2.5-sack performance versus the Carolina Panthers.
