Brandon Scherff isn't expected to strike an extension with the Washington Football Team, leaving him to play on the franchise tag for the second straight year, sources told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
The 29-year-old right guard would make $18 million on the 2021 tag before potentially reaching free agency for the first time in his career in 2022.
Tagged players have until Thursday to sign long-term deals.
Scherff, who earned his first All-Pro selection last year, is coming off arguably his best NFL season. The 2015 fifth overall pick out of Iowa also earned his fourth Pro Bowl nod in 2020.
Scherff could have greater responsibility on Washington's offensive line in 2021 with longtime right tackle Morgan Moses no longer on the roster.
