Ramsey quiets Renfrow buzz: 'He had 1 good catch on me'
All-Pro cornerback Jalen Ramsey downplayed reports from practice Wednesday that Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Hunter Renfrow had a banner day at his expense.
"I watched the film twice and I still can't find the plays where I was burnt multiple times," the Los Angeles Rams star said Thursday. "But, sure. He had one good catch on me yesterday - six yards, stupid fourth-down play."
Ramsey's assessment contradicted various beat reporters who suggested the diminutive Renfrow gave the NFL's highest-paid cornerback the business in the slot.
Renfrow indicated his battle with Ramsey was competitive, noting his opponent "beat me a couple of times today, too." He also said, "If I can beat Jalen Ramsey, I can beat anybody in the NFL."
"I get that sometimes mentioning my name going against certain receivers may give them buzz and it may pump them up some," Ramsey said. "This is no disrespect to Hunter Renfrow because I actually think he's a pretty good player, I think he has some Cooper Kupp in him, but I didn't have no issues yesterday.
"Watching the film, I played pretty well yesterday, so maybe people just need to learn the differences between zones and man and schemes. It doesn't really bother me but sometimes I feel like you got to set the record straight and then you just leave it at that."
Renfrow, a fifth-round pick in 2019, finished third on the Raiders in receiving last season with 656 yards to go along with a pair of touchdowns.
