Jaguars' Etienne out for season with foot injury
The Jacksonville Jaguars placed running back Travis Etienne on season-ending injured reserve Tuesday.
Etienne will undergo surgery to deal with a mid-foot Lisfranc sprain, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.
The move officially ends Etienne's rookie season. Only players who are on the 53-man roster as of next Tuesday can be placed on short-term IR, Schefter notes.
The tailback was expected to miss at least 12 weeks, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
Jacksonville selected the 22-year-old in the first round (25th overall) of the 2021 NFL Draft.
Etienne exited the first quarter of Monday's preseason contest against the New Orleans Saints with a foot injury.
The Clemson product was expected to provide the Jags with an offensive boost alongside former college teammate and No. 1 overall pick Trevor Lawrence.
Etienne is the ACC's all-time leading rusher with 4,952 yards. He added 1,155 receiving yards in four seasons with the Tigers.
Jacksonville will now rely on James Robinson and Carlos Hyde to lead its rushing attack to begin the 2021 campaign.
