Report: Saints trading for Texans cornerback Roby

The New Orleans Saints are acquiring some cornerback help, trading for veteran Bradley Roby from the Houston Texans, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports.

The terms of the deal aren't yet known.

Roby will miss the first week of the regular season while serving the remainder of a six-game suspension he received in 2020 for violating the league's performance-enhancing substances policy.

The seven-year vet played the past two seasons with the Texans, starting 20 games and recording three interceptions. The former 2014 first-round pick spent the first five years of his career with the Denver Broncos, hauling in seven interceptions during that time.

Roby initially signed a one-year, $10-million deal with Houston in 2019 before inking a three-year, $31.5-million extension in 2020.

The Saints had attempted to address their secondary during the offseason. New Orleans was reported to be targeting one of the top corners in April's draft but was unable to trade up from the No. 28 position.

The Saints released Janoris Jenkins in March for salary-cap reasons.

New Orleans' cornerback group now features Roby, star Marshon Lattimore, Ken Crawley, Paulson Adebo, and veteran Desmond Trufant. P.J. Williams figures to move back to safety.
