The Indianapolis Colts have placed offensive guard Quenton Nelson on injured reserve, the team announced Saturday.

Nelson will miss the first game of his career on Sunday due to knee/ankle injuries after making 51 consecutive starts. He has also appeared in three postseason contests.

The three-time All-Pro has started the first three games for Indianapolis this season. Nelson was unable to finish last weekend's matchup against the Tennessee Titans after being carted to the locker room.

Colts coach Frank Reich said the three-time Pro Bowler possibly wouldn't miss much time, hinting at a return in Week 5. However, it appears that the franchise will give Nelson at least a few weeks to rehab his ailments.

Nelson's absence further complicates Indianiapolis' offensive line rotation after starting right tackle Braden Smith was ruled out for Sunday's game against the Miami Dolphins with a foot/thumb ailment.

The Colts, 0-3, are seeking their first win of the campaign.
