Report: Bears' Mack expected to sit vs. 49ers, could hit IR with foot injury
Chicago Bears pass-rusher Khalil Mack is not expected to play Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers due to a foot injury, according to the NFL Network's Mike Garafolo and Ian Rapoport.
The Bears could reportedly place the six-time Pro Bowl defender on injured reserve to allow him more time to rehab.
Such a move would see Mack miss Chicago's next three contests before becoming eligible to return in Week 12, Rapoport reports. The Bears have a Week 10 bye.
Head coach Matt Nagy noted the team hasn't made a decision regarding Mack's status going forward.
"We're working through everything," he said.
The three-time All-Pro hasn't missed a game this season but has had limited availability for practices through seven weeks. Mack, 30, has tallied 19 tackles, six tackles for loss, and six sacks in 2021.
Mack's absence would be another devastating blow to a Chicago defense plagued by injuries. Defensive tackle Akiem Hicks has missed two of the last three games due to a groin injury, and outside linebacker Robert Quinn is currently on the team's reserve/COVID-19 list.
