Report: Saints signed Ingram to 1-year extension prior to trade from Texans
Mark Ingram will officially return to the New Orleans Saints on Friday, and the veteran running back is staying beyond this season.
Ingram signed a one-year extension worth up to $2.8 million for 2022 prior to his trade from the Houston Texans on Thursday, sources told Field Yates of ESPN.
New Orleans sent Houston a 2024 seventh-round pick to reacquire Ingram, a source told Adam Schefter of ESPN.
Ingram is expected to act as a backup to Alvin Kamara during Sunday's game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The 31-year-old racked up 294 yards and a touchdown across seven contests after joining the AFC South team this past offseason.
The Saints drafted Ingram in the first round of the 2011 NFL Draft. He made three Pro Bowls and produced two 1,000-yard seasons before leaving New Orleans for the Baltimore Ravens in 2019.
