Beckham's dad shares video of Mayfield's misfires, LeBron tweets #FreeOBJ
Some have attributed Odell Beckham Jr.'s lack of production with the Cleveland Browns this season to the wideout's diminishing skills. But Beckham's father, Odell Beckham Sr., sees things differently.
Beckham Sr. posted a video on his Instagram Tuesday that highlighted instances in which his son was open and quarterback Baker Mayfield failed to find him, featuring plays from Week 3 to Week 6.
Beckham Sr. also agreed with a commenter who called Mayfield "mediocre."
LeBron James also weighed in on Beckham's situation on Twitter ahead of Tuesday's 4 p.m. ET trade deadline.
Beckham has struggled to replicate his All-Pro form in Cleveland from his time with the New York Giants, leading to persistent speculation about his future with the Browns.
The 28-year-old had a solid first season with Cleveland in 2019, catching 74 passes for 1,035 yards and four touchdowns. But Beckham's production dipped in seven games in 2020 before suffering a torn ACL, and the downward trend has continued into this season.
The wideout has caught just 17 of 34 targets (a career-low catch rate of 50%) for 232 yards and no touchdowns. He had just one reception for six yards in Sunday's 15-10 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The Mayfield-Beckham connection has failed to live up to expectations, with the quarterback often performing better without his star weapon. Mayfield's completion percentage of 55% when targeting Beckham ranks 59th out of 62 quarterback-receiver duos, according to Jake Trotter of ESPN.
However, the Browns don't have any plans to trade Beckham, sources told ESPN's Dianna Russini. Cleveland hasn't received "any offers that would make sense for the organization," added Russini.
