Mayfield: Still haven't spoken to Beckham but 'I wish him well'
The Cleveland Browns and Baker Mayfield didn't miss a beat without Odell Beckham Jr. during Sunday's 41-16 blowout win over the Cincinnati Bengals.
The quarterback put together one of his best performances of the season, throwing for 218 yards and two touchdowns on 14-of-21 attempts for a passer rating of 132.6.
While Beckham's divorce from the Browns was messy and the two players have still yet to speak, Mayfield doesn't have any hard feelings toward his former teammate.
"I wish him well. I really do. My feelings haven't changed," said Mayfield, according to ESPN's Jake Trotter. "From a personal standpoint, he's a good friend of mine. We still haven't talked. But that doesn't change things. I wish him well. I wish him the best in his career."
Mayfield added he was proud of how his teammates "were about to focus up despite all the bullshit" surrounding Beckham's exit.
Beckham's father, Odell Beckham Sr., made waves before the trade deadline on Tuesday, sharing a video of Mayfield's misfires from this campaign.
The wideout will hit waivers on Monday and can be claimed Tuesday at 4 p.m. ET. He reportedly wants to join a contending team for the rest of 2021.
Cleveland apparently reworked Beckham's contract as part of his release and removed the final two years of the deal, meaning he will become a free agent after this season.
Beckham's remaining $7.25 million salary was left untouched, so only nine teams - the Jacksonville Jaguars, Philadelphia Eagles, Denver Broncos, Seattle Seahawks, Carolina Panthers, Los Angeles Chargers, Pittsburgh Steelers, Washington Football Team, and Cincinnati Bengals - can claim him without revising other contracts.
