Wentz intends to play vs. Jaguars despite impending birth of 2nd child
Indianapolis Colts quarterback Carson Wentz intends to play against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday, even if it means missing the birth of his baby.
Wentz's wife is due to deliver the couple's second child any day now.
"I could get a call at any time," he said, according to The Athletic's Stephen Holder. But after having a discussion with his wife about a possible conflict between this weekend's game, Wentz noted that "I'm playing."
With the Colts signal-caller intent on being active for Week 10, the decision aids the Philadelphia Eagles, who could receive a first-round selection in the 2022 NFL Draft if Wentz plays 75% of the team's snaps during the regular season. The conditional draft pick will remain a second-round selection if Wentz does not fulfill the percentage criteria.
The 2017 Pro Bowler has passed for 2,198 yards, 17 touchdowns, and three interceptions while completing 63% of his pass attempts. Wentz has thrown more TDs through nine contests than he did in his final campaign with the Eagles in 2020.
Indianapolis will aim to take advantage of a Jaguars defense that's allowing an average of 272 passing yards per game to opponents this season.
Wentz and the Colts currently sit second in the AFC South with a 4-5 record.
