Report: Giants' Gettleman unlikely to return in 2022

The Dave Gettleman era in New York could soon be coming to a close.

The Giants are unlikely to retain their general manager for 2022 after producing a disappointing 3-7 record through 11 weeks this season, sources told Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

It's reportedly possible Gettleman, who turns 71 in February, will opt to retire.

New York would presumably need to make a late charge to claim a playoff spot for Gettleman to have a shot at saving his job.

The NFC East club currently has a 3% chance to make the postseason, according to FiveThirtyEight. The Giants would be all but eliminated with a loss to the division rival Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday.

New York already made a significant move this week in hopes of salvaging its season, firing offensive coordinator Jason Garrett after just 26 games.

The Giants hired Gettleman in 2018 after he spent the previous five seasons as the Carolina Panthers' general manager. New York is 18-40 under Gettleman and hasn't made the playoffs during his tenure.
