Report: Chargers finalizing trade to acquire Mack from Bears

The Los Angeles Chargers are finalizing a deal to acquire Pro Bowl pass-rusher Khalil Mack from the Chicago Bears, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The Chargers are trading a 2022 second-round pick and a 2023 sixth-round pick for Mack, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

The deal will be confirmed once the Chargers and Mack agree to an adjustment of his contract and he passes a physical, adds Rapoport.

Mack, 31, has three years remaining on a six-year, $141-million extension he signed in 2018 following his blockbuster move from the then-Oakland Raiders.

He missed 10 games last season due to injury but still managed to produce six sacks. Mack had 30 quarterback takedowns over his first three campaigns in Chicago.

While the 2016 Defensive Player of the Year is no longer at the height of his powers, he will form one of the NFL's best pass-rushing duos alongside Joey Bosa.

With star quarterback Justin Herbert on a rookie contract for at least one more season, the Chargers appear to be going all-in to maximize their window of contention after just missing out on a wild-card spot last year.

They re-signed wide receiver Mike Williams to a reported three-year, $60-million extension ahead of free agency.

The AFC West could be the league's most competitive division in 2022.

The Denver Broncos, who finished last in the division in 2021 with a 7-10 record, acquired quarterback Russell Wilson in a blockbuster move. Meanwhile, the Chiefs and the Raiders are coming off playoff appearances.
