Report: Caldwell expects to interview for Bears' coaching job
Former Detroit Lions and Indianapolis Colts bench boss Jim Caldwell expects to be interviewed for the Chicago Bears' head coaching position, a source told ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.
Several NFL officials believe Caldwell, who's been out of the league since 2019, is a candidate for the job, Fowler reports.
The Bears have interviewed two candidates since firing Matt Nagy, meeting with former Philadelphia Eagles head coach Doug Pederson and former Miami Dolphins head coach Brian Flores.
Caldwell has ties to the Bears via Bill Polian, the Hall of Fame executive who is assisting Chicago with its search. Caldwell and Polian worked together in Indianapolis.
Caldwell, who won Super Bowls as an assistant with Indy and the Baltimore Ravens, went 62-50 across six seasons as a head coach with the Colts and Lions. Detroit moved on from him after he went 9-7 in 2017, replacing him with Matt Patricia.
The 66-year-old Caldwell last worked in the NFL in 2019, briefly serving as the Dolphins' quarterbacks coach and assistant head coach. He took a leave of absence before the season and never returned.
Caldwell has already interviewed for the Jacksonville Jaguars' opening in the ongoing cycle of coaching changes.
