Report: Raiders set to hire Patriots' Ziegler as new GM
The Las Vegas Raiders are expected to hire New England Patriots executive Dave Ziegler as their new general manager, according to Ian Rapoport, Mike Garafolo, and Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.
Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels reportedly will follow Ziegler to Las Vegas as the team's next head coach.
Ziegler, the Patriots' director of player personnel, has acted as the team's de facto general manager alongside head coach Bill Belichick, who has the final say in personnel decisions.
McDaniels has spent 13 seasons over two separate stints commanding the Patriots' offense. He was previously the head coach of the Denver Broncos from 2009-10.
The longtime New England assistant was nearly the Indianapolis Colts' head coach in 2018, but he backed out of the role shortly after the Colts announced his hiring.
Meanwhile, Ziegler has spent nine seasons with the Patriots. He was promoted to his current position ahead of the 2021 season after spending the 2020 campaign as assistant director of player personnel. He worked for the Broncos for three years before joining New England.
The Raiders are heading into a new era following head coach Jon Gruden's resignation midseason and general manager Mike Mayock's firing in January.
