Bengals' Ricardo Allen retires after 8 seasons
Cincinnati Bengals safety Ricardo Allen is retiring after eight NFL seasons, he announced Sunday.
Allen joined the Bengals in 2021 after a seven-year stint with the Atlanta Falcons. He appeared in 91 career games, recording 77 starts and 11 interceptions.
Allen entered the league as a fifth-round pick of the Falcons in 2014. He didn't crack the lineup his rookie year but carved out a starting role in 2015. He formed a dynamic safety tandem with Keanu Neal for several years and started next to Neal in Super Bowl LI against the New England Patriots.
The Falcons released Allen in 2021, and the Purdue product went on to sign a one-year contract with the Bengals. He appeared in 14 games with one start for Cincinnati and played nine snaps in Super Bowl LVI against the Los Angeles Rams.
