The Chicago Bears are releasing running back Tarik Cohen with an injury designation, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Cohen missed the entire 2021 season and all but three games the previous year because of a torn ACL. The 26-year-old isn't ready to pass a physical but hopes to be ready for the beginning of the 2022 campaign, Schefter adds.

Cohen served the Bears as a dynamic offensive weapon before going down with the injury that has sidetracked his career. The 5-foot-6 scatback recorded 1,101 rushing yards, 1,575 receiving yards, and 1,613 return yards from 2017-20 and had 17 total touchdowns.

The Bears signed Cohen to a three-year, $17.25-million contract extension weeks before he tore his ACL. His release saves Chicago $2.25 million against the salary cap and leaves $3.5 million in dead money.

Chicago is also releasing defensive tackle Eddie Goldman, who had 22 tackles with 0.5 sacks in 2021 and spent seven years with the team, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
