The Kansas City Chiefs have signed former Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Ronald Jones, the team announced.

Kansas City gave Jones a one-year contract worth up to $5 million, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.

Jones, who won Super Bowl LV against the Chiefs, spent four seasons in Tampa Bay after the Buccaneers drafted him in the second round in 2018.

The 24-year-old took a back seat to Leonard Fournette in the run game last year, and rushed for only 428 yards and four touchdowns. He rumbled for 978 yards and seven touchdowns in 2020 while splitting touches with Fournette and averaged 5.1 yards per carry.

Jones led the Buccaneers in rushing in 2020 and 2021, rebounding from a brutal rookie campaign in which he mustered up only 44 yards on the ground. He's the fourth free agent to leave the Bucs this offseason, joining guard Alex Cappa, safety Jordan Whitehead, and tight end O.J. Howard.

Jones will join a Chiefs backfield led by former first-round pick Clyde Edwards-Helaire. Kansas City's other top two running backs from last season - Darrel Williams and Jerick McKinnon - are free agents.
