Browns' Stefanski hopes Mayfield situation 'resolved soon'

Baker Mayfield is no longer the Cleveland Browns' franchise quarterback following the arrival of Deshaun Watson, but his next move remains a mystery.

While Cleveland intends to trade the 2018 No. 1 overall pick, Mayfield's market doesn't appear to be strong after a host of teams made their decisions at quarterback when free agency started.

Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski said Monday that he hopes Mayfield's future "is resolved soon," according to ESPN's Kevin Seifert.

"It's a unique situation," Stefanski said at the NFL's annual meeting. "We've got to see how it plays out. I think all of us would love an answer yesterday, but that's not the reality of it."

Mayfield was reportedly eyeing a move to the Indianapolis Colts, but the AFC South club acquired Matt Ryan.

The Carolina Panthers - one of the few quarterback-needy teams yet to make a related move this offseason - apparently aren't interested in pursuing Mayfield.

The Seattle Seahawks could have interest in the signal-caller as the successor to Russell Wilson at the right price, sources told Cleveland.com's Mary Kay Cabot. However, the Seahawks are reportedly keen on Drew Lock, who arrived from the Denver Broncos in the Wilson trade.

Mayfield's lack of suitors could be due to his guaranteed full base salary of $18.858 million. He is also entering the final year of his rookie contract.

Cleveland bolstered its depth behind Watson in free agency, signing Jacoby Brissett to act as the team's primary backup.
