Report: Broncos re-signing Gordon to 1-year deal
The Denver Broncos are re-signing running back Melvin Gordon to a one-year contract worth up to $5 million, a source told Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
Gordon and Javonte Williams split time in Denver's backfield last year, producing nearly identical stat lines.
The veteran racked up 918 yards and eight touchdowns on 203 carries, while Williams had 903 yards and four touchdowns on the same number of rushing attempts as a rookie.
Gordon's return gives the Broncos one of the better running back duos in the NFL to back up new signal-caller Russell Wilson.
The 29-year-old had 986 yards and nine scores during his first campaign in Denver in 2020. He also caught 32 passes for 158 yards and one touchdown.
Gordon spent the first five seasons of his career with the San Diego/Los Angeles Chargers, producing 4,240 yards and 36 touchdowns while making two Pro Bowls (2016 and 2018).
