Bucs bolster backfield, take Rachaad White in 3rd round
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers selected Arizona State running back Rachaad White in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft, No. 91 overall.
The Buccaneers lost their top backup spot in the backfield when Ronald Jones departed in free agency, though they did bring back Leonard Fournette on a 3-year, $21-million deal.
White rushed for 1,006 yards on 182 carries last season. He also scored 15 touchdowns.
Scouting profile: Rachaad White
School | Height | Weight | 40 time |
---|---|---|---|
Arizona State | 6'0 | 214 | 4.48 |
White is the classic type of back who's good at many things without being exceptional in any one area as a ball carrier. He's a fun player to watch thanks to the wide variety of moves he uses to try to evade defenders. But that's necessary because he lacks the physicality and strength to break many tackles. His patient, upright running style also makes him vulnerable to big hits. Pass-catching is his most desirable trait - he's got a soft set of hands that hauled in 43 receptions his senior year. However, he doesn't exhibit consistency as a pass protector, which could damage the trust of his new coaches. The overall package appears to fit an eventual backup.
