Report: Saints expected to aggressively pursue Mathieu
The New Orleans Saints are expected to make an aggressive push to sign free-agent safety Tyrann Mathieu, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.
New Orleans is revisiting the idea of adding the former All-Pro after the club exited the draft without landing a safety.
Mathieu, a native of New Orleans, played his high school ball in the city before spending his collegiate career with LSU. He took a visit to the Saints' facility last month.
The Saints are looking to replenish their secondary following the departures of Marcus Williams and Malcolm Jenkins. The club signed Marcus Maye in free agency.
Mathieu spent the past three seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs and helped lead them to a Super Bowl LIV victory. He also spent time with the Houston Texans and Arizona Cardinals since entering the league in 2013.
The three-time Pro Bowler tallied 76 tackles, six passes deflected, and three interceptions last season.
