Report: Schultz skipping remainder of Cowboys' OTAs
Tight end Dalton Schultz informed the Dallas Cowboys he won't attend the rest of the club's voluntary OTA sessions due to frustration over contract extension negotiations, sources told NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.
The Cowboys placed the franchise tag on Schultz in March. He signed his franchise tender, which will guarantee his salary of $10.9 million for the 2022 season if he doesn't land a long-term deal with Dallas.
Schultz has become a reliable option in the Cowboys' passing attack after racking up 63 catches for 613 yards and four touchdowns in 2020. He posted career bests of 78 receptions for 808 yards and eight touchdowns as he emerged as Dallas' No. 1 TE last season.
Schultz was among three tight ends to receive the franchise tag this offseason, joining the Cleveland Browns' David Njoku and Mike Gesicki of the Miami Dolphins. Njoku recently signed a new four-year, $56.75-million deal.
It's currently unclear if Schultz plans to participate in the Cowboys' mandatory minicamp from June 14-16. The pass-catcher would be subject to a fine if he chose to skip the three-day session.
