Deebo rejoins 49ers for mandatory minicamp

Wide receiver Deebo Samuel returned to the field for the first time this offseason for the start of the San Francisco 49ers' mandatory minicamp on Tuesday, Matt Barrows of The Athletic reports.

The star receiver wasn't in uniform but was running on a side field, according to Barrows.

Samuel, 26, previously missed voluntary organized team activities after requesting a trade from the club in April.

The 2021 Pro Bowl pass-catcher is entering the final year of his rookie contract that's set to pay him $3.9 million in base salary next season, according to Over the Cap.

Samuel turned in career highs by hauling in 77 receptions for 1,770 scrimmage yards and 14 total touchdowns last season, along with an impressive 18.2 yards per catch.

The Niners reportedly turned down multiple offers to move the first-team All-Pro following his trade demand. The club remained confident that the two sides could repair the relationship and maintained that Samuel wouldn't be dealt.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan wouldn't confirm if Samuel changed his mind, but Shanahan remains optimistic about a deal.

"I don't think the relationship was ever too far away to not get it back to normal and I think we're working on that," he said, per ESPN's Nick Wagoner.

Meanwhile, San Francisco reportedly excused quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo from minicamp as he continues to rehab from shoulder surgery and the team seeks trade options.

Additionally, two-time Pro Bowl pass-rusher Nick Bosa was in uniform for the first day of minicamp, per Barrows. Bosa, who's eligible for a contract extension, skipped the team's voluntary OTA sessions.
