The San Francisco 49ers are waiving running back Trey Sermon, the team announced Wednesday.
San Francisco is creating a roster spot for former Cleveland Browns offensive lineman Blake Hance, who was claimed on waivers Wednesday.
The 49ers selected Sermon in the third round of the 2021 NFL Draft. He didn't earn much playing time in a Niners tailback group that featured Elijah Mitchell and Jeff Wilson.
Sermon appeared in nine games and started two of them. He recorded 41 carries for 167 yards to go along with one touchdown in his rookie campaign. He also added three receptions for 26 yards.
The 49ers could add Sermon to their practice roster if he clears waivers.
