Tanner looked good during OTAs, having lost a bit of weight during the offseason to improve his quickness, and he could challenge Lance Dunbar for the third spot on the Cowboys' running back depth chart, the Ft. Worth Star-Telegram reports.
Fifth-round pick Joseph Randle hasn't hit the field yet after undergoing thumb surgery but is expected to be DeMarco Murray's main backup this season. Given the injury histories of those two, however, whoever winds up in the number three slot is worth keeping an eye on. If Tanner can beat out Dunbar in camp he could end up having some surprising value.
