Commanders' Young won't be activated from reserve vs. Texans

Washington Commanders defensive end Chase Young won't be activated ahead of Sunday's game against the Houston Texans, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The Commanders were reportedly optimistic earlier in the week about removing Young from the physically unable to perform list. Washington has until Nov. 23 to move Young to the active roster, or he won't be eligible to play this season, per Schefter.

Head coach Ron Rivera said Friday that Washington would activate its star pass-rusher ahead of the Week 12 matchup if it didn't do it this week.

"If we don't activate him tomorrow, (we're) most certainly going to activate him by Tuesday," he said, according to Nicki Jhabvala of the Washington Post.

Young has missed the first 10 contests of the 2022 season as he continues to rehab ACL and MCL tears suffered in a game last year. The 2020 Pro Bowl defender returned to practice earlier this month, opening a 21-day practice window for the Commanders to remove him from the PUP list.

Young enjoyed a breakout campaign during his 2020 rookie season, racking up 44 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, and 7.5 sacks. The former second overall draft selection tallied 15 tackles, four QB hits, and 1.5 sacks in nine games last campaign.

Meanwhile, the Commanders placed running back J.D. McKissic and tight end Armani Rogers on injured reserve.
