Cardinals' Murray out for season after tearing ACL
Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray will miss the rest of the season after an MRI confirmed he tore his ACL in Monday's loss to the New England Patriots, head coach Kliff Kingsbury announced Tuesday.
Murray was carted off the field after going down with a noncontact knee injury on the third play of the game.
There was immediate fear from the Cardinals that Murray had suffered a serious knee injury. Kingsbury said postgame that it didn't look good, according to ESPN's Josh Weinfuss.
"Anytime you see a noncontact injury, you know it's worse right away," wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins added Monday.
Backup Colt McCoy played the rest of the game in Murray's place. He completed 27 of 40 pass attempts for 246 yards and an interception. He was also sacked six times.
McCoy is slated to start the final four games of the regular season. He posted a 1-1 record after Murray missed time due to injury in November.
Murray's fourth NFL campaign comes to an unfortunate end. The two-time Pro Bowler went 3-8. He racked up 2,368 passing yards and 14 touchdowns, threw seven interceptions, and also added 418 rushing yards for three scores on the ground.
The 2019 Offensive Rookie of Year signed a five-year, $230.5-million contract extension with Arizona in July.
The Cardinals (4-9) will take on the Denver Broncos next Sunday.
