Netflix series 'Quarterback' to follow Mahomes, Cousins, Mariota
A documentary series titled "Quarterback" that follows Patrick Mahomes, Kirk Cousins, and Marcus Mariota through the 2022 season on and off the field will debut in summer 2023, Netflix announced Wednesday.
Peyton Manning is an executive producer for the show and was crucial in convincing the quarterbacks to take part in the series, according to John Ourand of Sports Business Journal. He traveled to Kansas City to convince Mahomes in person.
"From welcoming home a new baby in the middle of the season to welcoming the Lombardi Trophy back to Kansas City, our crew was there for it all," Mahomes said in a statement.
The new docuseries intends to tell the story of each NFL season through quarterbacks. The first season's three quarterbacks, who were were mic'd-up for every game in the 2022 campaign, went down different paths. The Atlanta Falcons benched Mariota after 13 games, the New York Giants upset Cousins' Minnesota Vikings in the wild-card round, and Mahomes secured his second MVP trophy en route to the Chiefs' Super Bowl victory against the Philadelphia Eagles.
The show will feature behind-the-scenes footage of the quarterbacks' biggest moments, including Cousins' epic comeback against the Indianapolis Colts and Kansas City's Super Bowl win.
The series is produced by NFL Films, Mahomes' 2PM Productions, Netflix, and Manning's Omaha Productions.
