Report: Jets meeting with Aaron Rodgers in person
New York Jets team officials are flying out Tuesday to meet with Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers in person, sources told Dan Graziano of ESPN. The Packers reportedly granted Rodgers permission to seek a trade.
The 39-year-old still hasn't made a decision on his playing future, reports Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic.
Jets cornerback Sauce Gardner and running back Breece Hall are recruiting Rodgers on social media.
Rodgers signed a three-year, $150-million contract with Green Bay last offseason. He is set to have a $31.6-million cap hit in 2023, according to Over The Cap.
Derek Carr signed with the New Orleans Saints on Monday after previously meeting with New York. Zach Wilson and Chris Streveler are the only Jets quarterbacks signed for 2023, as Joe Flacco and Mike White are scheduled to hit free agency.
The Jets hold the 13th overall pick in the upcoming NFL draft and are $1.7 million over the salary cap, per Over The Cap.
Rodgers started all 17 games for the Packers last season, throwing for 3,695 yards with 26 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. Green Bay finished 8-9 and failed to make the playoffs for the first time since 2018.
