Chargers' Bosa eating up to 5K calories per day to bulk up
Los Angeles Chargers pass-rusher Joey Bosa spent a lot of time eating this offseason.
Bosa, who's listed at 6-foot-5 and 280 pounds, told ESPN's Lindsey Thiry that he ate between 4,500 and 5,000 calories per day in order to bulk up for the 2023 season.
"Eating isn't really enjoyable these days," Bosa said. "It's more so just part of the job."
In addition to his usual training regimen, the 28-year-old worked closely with a nutritionist and ensured he always had a refrigerator nearby so that he could eat five-to-six meals every day. His diet consisted of red meat, chicken, fish, vegetables, chickpea pasta, and lots of snacks like pretzels, nuts, and fruit.
"Was able to stay consistent with all the things that I normally would do," Bosa said. "But the key to gaining weight is just to eat a lot. Eat way more than you want to. And it's no fun a lot of the time."
Bosa was limited to five games in 2022 due to a groin injury. He finished the season with 10 total tackles, three tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, one forced fumble, and six quarterback hits.
