San Francisco pass-rusher Nick Bosa remained away from the team as the 49ers held their first Week 1 practice Wednesday, sources told Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

His status for Sunday's game against the Pittsburgh Steelers is reportedly now in doubt.

Bosa has held out throughout the offseason and preseason as he seeks a massive contract extension.

San Francisco has offered the star defensive end a contract that averages in excess of $30 million per season, but the two sides have been unable to reach an agreement, adds Rapoport.

Los Angeles Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald currently tops all non-quarterbacks with a deal that averages $31.66 million.

Bosa won the Defensive Player of the Year award last season after leading the NFL with 18.5 sacks.
