Report: Commanders' Young likely out until Week 3 with neck injury
Washington Commanders pass-rusher Chase Young won't play in Sunday's season-opening game against the Arizona Cardinals and will likely be sidelined until Week 3 due to a neck injury, Ben Standig of The Athletic reports.
Young was hopeful of playing in Week 1 but wasn't given clearance to play after a check-up Friday, adds Standig.
The 2020 No. 2 overall pick suffered a stinger during the Commanders' preseason game against the Cleveland Browns on Aug. 11.
Young only played the last three games of the 2022 campaign after suffering a torn ACL midway through the 2021 season. He has suited up for 12 games over the last two years.
The Commanders declined the fifth-year option in Young's rookie contract ahead of the 2023 season, setting him up to hit free agency in 2024.
