The Denver Broncos released pass-rusher Frank Clark after failing to find a trade partner, the team announced Saturday.

Clark and the Broncos had attempted to pave the way for a trade by agreeing to a pay cut that reduced his $3.5-million base salary to the minimum of $841,000 for the rest of the season, NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reports.

A reunion with the Kansas City Chiefs is possible for Clark, adds Garafolo.

The 30-year-old spent the last four seasons with the Chiefs, winning two Super Bowls, before joining the Broncos on a one-year free-agent deal this past offseason.

A hip injury and an illness limited Clark to just two games for the Broncos, and he finishes his short tenure with two tackles and zero sacks. He's the second high-profile defender that Denver has moved on from amid a disappointing start to the season following Randy Gregory's trade to the San Francisco 49ers.

Denver reportedly could resort to a firesale to recoup some assets, with wide receivers Jerry Jeudy and Courtland Sutton as potential candidates.

Clark has been a reliable pass-rusher throughout his career, racking up 58.5 quarterback takedowns and 14 forced fumbles.

The veteran began his career with the Seattle Seahawks in 2015 and produced his best two seasons with the NFC West club, earning 10 sacks in 2016 and 13 in 2018.
