Best Week 6 total bets: Expect the 49ers to dominate again
Another 2-1 week brings our season record to 9-6. Let's keep the train going and dive into some total bets for Week 6.
Remember, when scouring through the board, don't only look at game totals. There's value in team totals if you expect one to score a lot but aren't certain how much the opposition will contribute.
49ers @ Browns over 35.5 points
This is the lowest total of the week and will be one of the lowest of the entire season. But I'm still taking the over.
Yes, I know the Browns are starting a backup quarterback. But this isn't PJ Walker's first start; he's played a handful of games in the last three seasons. Regardless of how inept - or maybe prolific - Walker might be, this is about the 49ers.
The 49ers haven't scored fewer than 30 points once this season and are averaging 33.3. While the Browns still have the third-best scoring defense in the league, I wrote about why that's misleading last week and took the Ravens' team total.
The Ravens cruised past the number in a dominant win. The 49ers' offense - which has no weaknesses - isn't slowing down anytime soon and will once again prove why the Browns' defense is overrated. San Francisco might hit this overall by itself, but I'm counting on the Browns - even with a backup quarterback - to contribute with at least a touchdown to get this incredibly low total over 35.5.
Colts' team total over 20.5 points
The Colts have scored at least 21 points every week, including the first time they played the Jaguars in Week 1. Starting rookie quarterback Anthony Richardson is out for at least the next four games with a shoulder injury.
Backup Gardner Minshew has plenty of experience, including two starts this year - both wins. He led his team to 31 and 22 points, respectively. The 4-2 Colts' offense has been surprisingly good with both Richardson and Minshew under center.
The Jaguars' defense has been inconsistent. It's improved the last two weeks, surrendering 20 points to the Bills last week and seven points to the Falcons the week before. However, it gave up 37 points to the Texans and a rookie quarterback in Week 3. The Jaguars should win as four-point home favorites, but expect the Colts to score into the 20s.
Vikings over 23.5 points
The Vikings are spiraling at 1-4 and just lost superstar wide receiver Justin Jefferson for the foreseeable future with a hamstring injury. However, Minnesota has a perfect opportunity to get back on track against a weak Bears team.
Chicago has looked better the last two weeks, beating the Commanders and coming up just short against the Broncos. However, the offense is carrying the team. Chicago's defense is giving up 31.4 points per game, the third-worst scoring defense in the NFL.
While the Vikings are struggling, their defense is the weaker side of the ball. Minnesota's scoring offense ranks in the top half of the league.
Expect a high-scoring game from both teams Sunday in Chicago, but the smarter play is taking the Vikings team total over.
